Friday The 13th

July 16, 2012

I was looking at our blog “hits” over the last week, and I noticed we had a HUGE jump this last Friday. We were getting hits from all over the world, en masse.  I couldn’t figure it out, because we hadn’t posted in a couple of days, but then I looked at the (in)famous search terms box, and it all became clear (and should have been obvious): Everybody was checking out anything related to Friday the 13th!

Kane Hodder

When you’ve got Kane Hodder in your film, I’m pretty sure people are going to come looking for your project on the day that made him famous.  This got me thinking, what’s the deal with Friday the 13th?  Why is everyone so worried about it? There’s even a medical disorder called Paraskevidekatriaphobics — people afflicted with a morbid, irrational fear of Friday the 13th! Personally, some of the best days of my life came on Friday he 13th’s, so different strokes for different folks I guess.

There was some added weirdness this year, because it was our third 13th of the year, and they were all 13 weeks apart (I feel like I could make a Tom Cruise divorce joke here, but I won’t).  I looked up how common that was, and found an interesting article on it and other calendar quirks (won’t happen again until 2040).  You can read all about it here.  In the end, the only thing I know for sure about Friday the 13th is that it’s really smart to position your (horror) film around a major weird holiday – see: Halloween.

I wonder if it’s too late to change Uncle Slavko’s Lodge to an All-Canadian Lodge and revolve the whole thing around Canada Day?  It just might be crazy enough to work….

Seriously folks, it’s time to subscribe to our Love IN The Time Of Monsters social networks.  You can follow us on facebook, twitter and watch our video blogs on youtube.  We’ve got tons of big updates and news coming your way this summer, you don’t want to miss out!
